you see him live on this channel every single day. you see him reporting from new york. today is in san francisco this morning. and we are going to have an interview with al in just a few moments. don't go anywhere. stay tuned for that. it's going to be a good time. the real reason we're out here is to root on those san francisco 49ers and look at the crowd that came out. this is your 49ers faithful. it's still dark. it's very cold out here. we have a full house. lots more to come out here from the ferry building and if you want to you can come out here. we'll be out here for a couple hours. lots more fun to be had. like i said, that interview with al roker coming up in just a few minutes now. stay tuned. >> i love all of the red and gold out there. good to see. >> the other cool thing is al roker is a huge 49er supporter. more things to get into here. 90 minutes from now, history being made in new orleans. head coaches, we know who they are, jim and john harbaugh, they'll sit together for one of those peace meetings.

a joint press conference. >> this is the first time in super bowl history two opposing coaches, let alone brothers, have appeared together for a presser before the big game. the emergence and stardom of that guy, number 7, colin kaepernick. ahmed fareed joins us now from new orleans with more on that and what the team is saying about their young new leader. this kid has been on fire. >> reporter: he's been unbelievable and he's burst on the scene, jon, in the last 2 1/2 months. it was somewhat of an uncertain path to get here. there was only one scholarship offer for him to play football and that was with the university of nevada. the team he ended up playing for. that came one week before signing day. he was hoping for an opportunity. he got that. he was a better baseball player than football but football is what he wanted to do and now playing in super bowl xlvii and according to teammates, he could

be the key to the game on sunday. >> there's something about kap that no matter what happens, he always keeps his composure. that's what i like about him. he's always under control no matter what. and it's a great thing, man. i'm just happy to have him be a part of this team. >> when things go wrong, he stay calm. you know, you just don't know -- defenses won't know what they'll get from him. he can run. he can throw. he can block. he can do whatever. >> our team has great faith in him. the thing you see in his eyes is the competitive fire, the poise beyond his years. >> the 49ers organization seen something in him when they drafted them that i didn't know they knew later on it would pay off this big but they are getting their money's worth. >> reporter: he has been so good for them. here's what's coming up on

that i got on this morning. i'm inside number 85's art gallery on santana row. this is gallery 85. the baby of the tight end vernon davis. here's a look at him right here. i wish he was here with us this morning. you know where he is. he's in new orleans gearing up for sunday. if you want to blow off super bowl steam this weekend, this is where you are encouraged to come out. check out the art work which does include some of davis' very own creations. plenty to take in here. they are calling it the 49ers acoustic rally concert. it will happen here tomorrow. 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. there will be live music. there will be drinks. all sorts of fanfare to get you excited for sunday. we have people setting up. we'll hear from these people. these are band members. i want to show you some of vernon davis' art work. these three pieces he created himself. this one already sold. this one here is called grandma. this one here is called valet

police department. shocking and disturbing new allegations this morning that officers pointed a gun at a sleeping toddler while serving a search warrant last year. "today in the bay's" terry mcsweeney is live with how the department is responding to those reports. good morning. >> reporter: a federal court monitor issuing that explosive headline. look at file of oakland police. i'll tell you something that everyone agrees on. last july oakland police served a search warrant on a residence on market street related to drug dealing and police say the warrant contained probable cause to search for narcotics, firearms and ammunition. that's what everyone agrees on. here's where it gets diverse. take a look at a quote from the federal court monitor. during a search warrant two officers pointed their firearms at a sleeping 19-month-old child

who of course posed no threat to the officers or others. the crime being investigated according to the reports involved a misdemeanor. here is oakland police department's version of the exact same event. oakland police say "officers moved through the interior of the residence and encountered a sleeping toddler and immediately recognized that no threat existed and continued their search and ultimately ensured the child was united with a caregiver. at no time did officers intentionally target the child or hold them at gunpoint." federal court monitor had to be appointed as a result of the case back in 2000 where officers were found guilty of brutality and planting evidence and this case will go on. live in oakland, terry, mcsweeney, nbc bay area news. >> story that's crazy beyond belie belief. christina loren is out at the ferry building in san francisco. christina loren, how is it? we're not doing christina loren

right now. i take that back. we'll check in with mike inouye. >> exciting out there. we'll get to her in just a bit. in the meantime, let's check in with mike inouye. >> good morning, folks. you know, we had camera spinning around because 880 around mission boulevard reports of a disabled vehicle on the westbound side. that will be the section we see with headlights coming underneath the mission over crossing. i've been checking. it doesn't look like any problem as far as flow of traffic. you see how light it is. we'll get back to maps. pointing the arrow in the commute direction, that's southbound through the area. also a pretty light volume of traffic heading down into milpitas, south bay shows a smooth flow. no injuries or further incident. we'll look at smooth northbound ride. traditional all week. we do also look at the peninsula with no problems. slowing heading south through palo alto. i was concerned but as you can see it cleared up there just south of the dumbarton bridge and a live look we'll show you that road is clear.

taillights heading away from us is same section i did see slowing for about five minutes. easy drive here through palo alto north and southbound. northbound all of the way in through san mateo and into the city. we'll send it back to you. >> all right. thank you very much. we have breaking news literally this was just handed to us. there's an amber alert message coming out from the california highway patrol. a child abduction occurred 12:30 this morning in oakland. the child is a 1 year old little girl with black hair, brown eyes last seen wearing a pink shirt. >> the suspect is a 56-year-old black male with black hair, brown eyes, 6'4", 270 pounds. last seen weari ining a plaid g and beige jacket. >> we have a description of the car. possibly driving a 1973 primer

welcome back. we want to start you with international news from turkey. two people are dead. we have a live picture from turkey right now where two people are confirmed dead. several other people are hurt. after a suicide bomber reportedly blew themselves up outside of the u.s. embassy in ankara. that explosion happened on a side street right next to the embassy. once again, two people confirmed dead. several others hurt. we'll of course keep you updated as information continues coming into our newsroom. right now it's 5:14. shares of facebook right now poised for gains this morning as investors adjusted a attitudes. >> they are agreeing with me this morning. we said early yesterday as facebook shares fell 8%, the market really misjudged what facebook had to say in its financial reports released earlier this week. the news we said was much better than people were interpreting it

and throughout the day we did see a turnaround. down from 8%. the social giant ended the day yesterday down 83 cents in premarket calls do call for gains this morning. meanwhile, the other thing we are watching is jobs. it's the first day of february today. the monthly unemployment rate will be released at 5:30 our time with that in mind we'll turn to jackie deangelis live at cnbc headquarters. good morning, jackie. >> good morning. futures are higher as investors await that big economic report of the week. it's the january jobs report. it's expected to show another month of tepid hiring as companies continue to hold back on adding new workers. forecasts are calling for payrolls to rise by 166,000 last month following 155,000 in december but unemployment rate seen holding steady at 7.8% for the third straight month. we're going to get data on

consumer sentiment, manufacturing and construction spending and earnings from exxon mobil, chevron and merck. stocks fell yesterday. the dow losing 49 points to 13,860. the dow had the best january since 1994. the nasdaq falling a traction to 3142. back over to you. >> thank you much. also the market is going to be watching that situation in ankara. two people were killed outside of the u.s. embassy after a suicide bomber blew himself up. any world terrorism particularly in a nato country like turkey is something that wall street will watch very carefully to see if there is more of that. the meaning of that. we'll keep an eye on that for you as well. >> world news affecting our markets. very important. thank you. >> interesting stuff. 5:17. let's get it out to christina loren. she's enjoying the city of city of san francisco with the fans.

5:25. oakland kicking off the new identification card program today. the i.d. cards will be issued to residents without legal status and will double as debit cards with mastercard logos. that's the first in any program in the country. the goal is to reduce crime and give undocumented immigrants access to bank accounts rather than check cashers. mayor jean kwan will launch that program at 10:00 a.m. at city hall. many people went above and beyond putting their hearts on the line and today those tokens of love are being taken down in los gatos. for months couples have been holding up the padlocks on the main street bridge as a symbol of their love for each other. the town really worried about

this that the locks could fall on cars traveling below on the bridge on highway 17. the deadline to remove the locks is this afternoon. the los gatos art museum is going to take a lot of those locks and display them as an exhibit just in time for valentine's day. it seems like everybody getting hyped up. why not? sunday the super bowl a big game. 49ers in it. >> even the fish. the folks at the san francisco california academy of science have a bet with the national aquarium in baltimore. >> there will be bubbles. >> both centers have a facebook contest showcasing their fish to see who can get the most likes. the loser will have to donate $1 for each like received by the winner to a wildlife conser conservation program. cast your vote by visiting the official facebook page from either aquarium. >> i have a feeling 49ers and ravens won't kiss like those two fish. it will be more intense. we'll be right back after this break.

>> it sure is. we'll get back to our 49ers coverage in just a moment. first breaking news just coming into our newsroom. the monthly jobs report just released this morning. scott mcgrew, good or bad news? >> can i split the difference and go with indifferent? unemployment rate at 7.9%. this is a decent number. we have had a long string of decent numbers. these numbers washington pays attention to but take less importance as we get out of the political season. the american economy continues to recover with okay employment. we were hoping for more. this comes after the gdp actually fell last quarter. we continue to watch all of these economic numbers. we'll have a full report on its influence on wall street coming up in just a bit. >> sounds good. thanks, scott. the time is 5:32. this morning, how about history?

for you. temperatures this morning are chilly. we are in the 30s and 40s for now. we are headed toward the 70s today. a gorgeous day shaping up. courtesy of high pressure. a big blocking ridge of high pressure in place. we call it a blocking ridge because it blocks the storm systems from getting into the bay area. it will keep air quality in good to moderate range. however, it's going to bring your temperatures up to levels that we traditionally experience in the springtime. i'm talking about 70s all throughout the south bay today. a few mid to upper 60s. temperatures are going to be comfortable for outdoor activities. you can ditch that jacket today. let's get to your seven-day forecast and tell you what's to come. changes just ahead. getting into your super bowl weekend temperatures will maintain. we're talking about the upper 60s and low 70s in warmest cities across the bay. as we head into monday and tuesday of next week, things change. we cool off and that rain just days away now. it moves in through late wednesday into thursday.

last name is the same. tolefree. this happened at 12:30 this morning in oakland. if you see the vehicle and someone matching that description, please call 911. live in oakland, terry mcsweeney, nbc bay area news. >> we'll follow that all morning. other breaking news. an update this morning on two people that have died in a suicide bombing at the entrance to the u.s. embassy in the turkish capital of ankara. two security guards at the entrance to the heavily protected building were killed. no word yet on if any americans were actually injured. from new york city, former mayor ed koch died overnight. he was 88 years old. koch had been treated in new york presbyterian hospital for water in his lungs and legs and was recently readmitted on monday. koch served as mayor of new york for three terms from 1978 to 1989. his funeral is set for monday.

following some offcolor comments from a 49er this week during the media press conference talking about gays. the relationship getting worse this morning. the it gets better project has pulled a 49ers video off its website. that video was intended to try to help stop bullying of lgbt teens. it featured four 49er players. when asked about it yesterday, two of those players denied participating in the video. they say they didn't even realize that video was about gay rights. the video is off that website. it gets better.org. san francisco officials getting ready for super bowl sunday trying to make sure the celebrations stay safe. they are worried because of the violent celebrations after the giants world series win in october. some people who live in the city say they plan to avoid street parties all together. simon knows every fan revelry
